INTEGRATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY What is psychotherapy? Longer term therapy - over 2 yrs.
Psychotherapy or personal therapy with a counsellor trained in psychotherapy is an intentional relationship which aims to become a therapeutic one. The therapeutic relationship which is formed aims to increase the client’s sense of their own well being.
Counsellors employ a range of techniques based upon experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication and behaviour change that are designed to improve mental health and wellbeing of a client, or to improve relationships i.e. such as in a family, workplace.
A commonly asked question is: What’s the difference between counselling & psychotherapy?Counselling can be brief or open ended and can be limited to one or two years. Often a client comes with a particular issue which they may wish to address and concentrate on.
Psychotherapy is regarded as going much deeper into longer-term difficulties and may delve in to childhood experiences in order to give a client a greater awareness and understanding of themselves and or others.
