Reiki
What is a Reiki treatment?
It is a non-invasive treatment allowing the mind and body to relax using natural energy flow for health and well-being. The therapist will lay their hands gently on the body or just above (within the aura) to aid clearing blockages both physically and mentally.
Dr Mikao Usui developed Reiki in Japan in the early 1900s, after he spent time on Mount Kurama in a meditative retreat where he experienced ‘Satori’, which translates as ‘Enlightenment’. Reiki is made up of two parts, ‘Rei’, pronounced as ray, meaning universal or spirit and ‘ki’, pronounced as key, meaning energy or force.
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
You will remain fully clothed and be asked to lie on a massage table or be seated in a chair, making sure you are completely relaxed and comfortable; a blanket will be provided in case you get cold. Your therapist may need a few moments to enter a calm state and will then place their hands on or near the body, moving around the head, torso, knees and feet. During a Reiki treatment, you may be aware of warmth, coolness, tingling or a sense of deep relaxation.
What can Reiki do for me?
Reiki is great for people who want to relax but are not keen on touch treatments such as massage. There are many conditions, which Reiki may be able to help as the energy aids re-balance of the mind, body and spirit.
How often do I need to have Reiki?
As with all treatments this depends solely on you – it can vary from a weekly or fortnight session or you may wish to receive a treatment every 4 – 6 weeks. It is always advisable to discuss this with your therapist.
Do I need to be ill to receive Reiki?
No, Reiki is a very gentle treatment and is suitable for all. Anyone can benefit from Reiki as it may be able to help a range of conditions - it should not be regarded as a cure, but it can complement and enhance other forms of treatments.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
The following may be experienced by those receiving Reiki:
· Deep relaxation, relieving symptoms of stress and tension · Reduced fatigue · A positive impact on mood and day to day performance · A general sense of good health and well-being · And many more
