No you don’t have to be sporty many clients come because they have had their problem for a long time, they want something more specific to a particular area working on. It can be from a car accident 20yrs ago or something more recent.
What happens during a session of Sports Massage?
A full assessment will be taken down and then you will be asked to remove relevant clothing. Unlike a massage treatment specific areas of the body are targeted, and you are expected to give feed back throughout the treatment. It pinpoints problem areas, such as past injuries or weak spots and then work is carried out on the relevant muscles.
This treatment is a deep tissue massage and the therapist always works within a limit that is set by you the client.

How often do I need to go for Sports Massage?
This will depend on what the problem is and how long you have had it for. Usually 4/6 sessions (one a week) to start with and then review. It is human nature to want the problem fixed straight away but many injuries/problems have been there for many years and will not disappear over night. Once the problem has been sorted it would be beneficial to have a massage monthly. If you are in training then you will need to receive treatments that fit with your event schedule, this should be discussed with your therapist.
Do I need to be ill to receive Sports Massage?
No. Some people use a sports massage as a kind of MOT for their body. Most people find they hold tension in their shoulder and neck area and find this type of massage beneficial.
